GTA Partners

What Does GTA Partnership Mean?

GTA Partners are an inclusive constituency of pre-competitive supply-chain companies and retailers with a substantial interest in improving the sustainability of the tuna sector and are actively committed to supporting GTA campaigns. Our Partners span every continent, and currently account for around 32% of the global tuna trade.

We recruit partners from several industries including food services, retailers, brand manufacturers, processors, and suppliers. We cannot, however, accept applications from fishing/vessel organisations.

As a Partner of the GTA, it will be expected that your company shares the same dedication to the GTA’s core principles of: tuna traceability, environmental sustainability and social responsibility.

Partners should also subscribe to the GTA’s Five Year Strategy, take steps towards fulfilling the objectives contained within it, and report their progress anonymously with the GTA, who will collate it and publish it in the public domain as part of its annual progress-tracking exercise.

The relationship between the GTA and its Partners is synergistic. Partners are encouraged to be active participants in shaping and amplifying GTA campaigns. In return, the GTA provides exclusive toolkits, training, resources, and information as well as a forum for discussion with other Partners based in the “Partner Portal” on our website.

What makes the GTA different is that we want to invest our time and resources into our Partners’ development, educating them on industry-related issues and facilitating their advocacy, enabling them to feel like active participants as opposed to offering support in name-only. In return, the GTA gains an increase in its collective influence and global reach.

REFLECTIONS FROM OUR PARTNERS

GTA Partners feel empowered by collaborating and advocating as part of a larger association and enjoy the access partnership provides to exclusive resources and training. But don’t just take our word for it. See what our Partners have to say.

“The GTA is doing things that we can’t do as a company ourselves. I can rely on what GTA is doing; that makes things easier for us. We are not alone.”

Andrea Webber - DIRECTOR CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY METRO AG

“Before the GTA, many across the supply chain didn’t appreciate how the RFMOs shape the tuna business, and the importance of playing a role there. Commitments from companies to achieve sustainability goals in a period of time is not the norm, but the GTA is achieving that with its partners as part of the 5 Year Strategy - that is transparency.”

Robin Teets - PRINCIPAL ARIA STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS, LLC FOR NGO TUNA FORUM

“The GTA is a good advocate for a diverse but proactive group of partners from all sectors of the tuna supply chain.”

John Burton - CEO, WORLD WISE FOODS

“The GTA helps to know who the good guys are in the tuna business. The GTA helps build connections with other companies with the same interest.”

Hugo Byrnes - VICE PRESIDENT PRODUCT INTEGRITY, AHOLD DELHAIZE
